Barcelona sealed the 2017-18 La Liga title with a 4-2 win over Deportivo La Coruna at the Estadio Riazor on Sunday. Barcelona started the game strong with Messi scoring a hat-trick after Philippe Coutinho’s opener just after 7 minutes from Ousmane Dembele’s pass. Deportivo were at the top of their game but failed to stop Barcelona from putting the last nail in the coffin. Deportivo were in the relegation zone, and had to win all their remaining games to avoid relegation.

It was not easy for Barcelona as they were pegged back to 2-2 from 2-0 lead. Deportivo never looked like a team fighting for relegation. Deportivo were forced to push forward, knowing victory as their only option and they paid the price as Messi added two late goals to complete the 46th hat-trick of his career. A 40th-minute goal from Lucas Perez gave the home supporters some hope followed with an equalizer from Emre Cloak in the 64th-minute as they were in search for the crucial three points. But all ended when Messi scored two late goals completing his hat-trick.

Messi makes the difference again and again. Another record for the Argentine as it was the his 30th league goal of the league campaign. That made him the first man to score 30+ goals in seven different Liga seasons.

After conceding 2 goals, Barca looked out of shape and failed to control the midfield efficiently. Deportivo took their chances and were close to converting another chance. But with time Barca recovered their form back in the game and with Valverde’s late tactical substitution managed to secure a comfortable win. Ernesto Valverde sent on Andrés Iniesta for the final minutes, and home supporters responded with a standing ovation for the departing Barça captain.

The substitutions were on point from Valverde. Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho despite of having a good start failed to control the game at the later stages. After a bad season at Barcelona, Dembele performed well against Deportivo. It was one of his best games for the Catalan giants since his arrival seeming more settled and comfortable with the ball at his feet.

The match ended with mixed emotions of joy and sorrow. Deportivo La Coruna the supporters were in tears after the match ended. Admirably and out of respect for the dejected home fans, the Barça players were restrained with their emotions and on-pitch celebrations.

Valverde’s side have 86 points from 34 games, 11 clear of second-placed Atlético Madrid, who have three games to play. Barcelona may have won the league title, but they have a huge fixture coming up as they face their bitter rivals Real Madrid at the Camp Nou. Meanwhile, Deportivo to face Celta Vigo away on Saturday.

Campeoooones, Campeoooones oleoleoleeee

Força Barça!!!
