Barcelona have been following the Frenchman, Antoine Griezmann closely and has been linked with a move to Barcelona. The rumours surrounding Griezmann are just starting to grow louder as we head towards the end of the season.
“He'll be welcomed” – Barcelona star Luis Suarez strongly hinted that Antoine Griezmann would join the LaLiga giants.
Griezmann, 27, has been linked with a move to Barcelona after enjoying another fine season with Atletico, scoring 27 goals in all competitions. The France international, whose contract runs till mid-2022, would be making the move to Camp Nou.
Atletico Madrid are ready to offer Antoine Griezmann a huge new contract worth €20million per year (£17.5m) in an attempt to keep him away from Barcelona's clutches this summer.The new deal, which works out at £335,000 per week, would eradicate the €100m (£87m) release clause that Barcelona are currently prepared to activate.
Griezmann recently declared those rumours to be untrue.
'I don't know where that information comes from. I don't know anything about it, so for now there is nothing. [These reports] are false.'
The Uruguayan forward was asked about the speculation surrounding the Atletico Madrid star and this is what he said:
"It makes the club proud to bring players of this quality like Antoine, like [Ousmane] Dembele and [Philippe] Coutinho came."
"He's a player who brings a huge amount, he has a lot of years playing at the highest level, always fighting. He rules up front for Atletico and that is fundamental.
"He is not coming to take the place of anyone, but with the ambition of winning important things.
"He will be welcomed."
Barcelona have enjoyed a fine 2017-18 campaign, winning LaLiga and the Copa del Rey and the signing would definitely benefit them strengthening the team for the upcoming seasons.
However, Barca do not want to make anything official before July 1 as the club wants the Griezmann transfer fee to be included in their losses for 2018-19, rather than in the current campaign. The France forward has long been linked with a move to the Nou Camp with the assumption being that he has agreed a deal in principle to make the switch ahead of this summer's World Cup.
